a project curated by Giulia Ferracci
Witness artapes, the permanent video gallery the museum has created in cooperation with In Between Art Film, the screening programme of which focuses on art videos. The third iteration of Artapes: Double Screen. Artist Film and Video in Italy from the ’60s to the present.
What was and what is it still today the experimentation with the moving image conducted by Italian artists from the Sixties onwards? Through over one hundred works by 80 different artists, this review attempts to respond to the question by embracing almost six decades of the history of artist film and video in Italy.
Moving images and the visual arts are two forms of expression that come together in the imagination of an artist, creating stimulating interferences. The title of the review, Double Screen, refers both to the two idioms and to another duplicity regarding the dialogue between film and video: two terms that today, from a historical perspective, help in an understanding of certain decisive aesthetic and technological passages, in particular with the advent of the digital medium.
On the occasion of “Le Storie del Cinema d’Artista” cycle, film screenings will be interrupted from 4 pm on: Wednesday 11 October, Friday 20 October, Friday 3 November, Thursday 14 December
