Fiume Endeavour recounted in a mix of futurist bravado, utopias, and sexual transgressions.

Fiume Endeavour (1919-1920) coagulated a number of different experiences, rebellious anxieties, and revolutionary fancies. It was like a long and feverish carnival in the name of celebration and provocation, akin to the vanguards of the time, but was also “insurrectional” like 1968.

Claudia Salaris, author of numerous books on futurism and avant-guards of the twentieth century, revisits the Fiume endeavour as a party-like life filled with futuristic bravado, utopias, sexual transgressions, piracy, play and war. In this light, Fiume is a significant chapter in the culture of revolt that characterised the twentieth century. The new edition adds a new chapter on D’Annunzio and the avant-garde.
