Alain Elkann asks and listens 474 times, and Giuseppe Penone shows a little bit of his world just as many times.

His sheltered childhood in the village of Garessio in the upper Tanaro valley, his encounter with wood, the forest and the time of nature, which was to influence that of sculpture; then his enrolment at the Albertina Academy in Turin, the abandonment of figurative in favour of unconventional content and unusual materials, his first debarked trees, the core element of his work, and his entry into Celant’s Arte Povera movement.

From then on, Penone’s artistic history continues to explore the connections between man, nature and culture as indivisible entities, the relationship and exchange between the body and the natural world, and between the body and architectural space, constantly erasing the boundary between inside and outside.
