MAXXI Arte’s Archive

MAXXI Arte’s Archive of the Contemporary conserves, safeguards and makes available to the public the museum’s collections (MAXXI Art Collection, Documentation of the Contemporary Collection). The documentary collection comprises heterogeneous material on paper or digital supports, including press releases and press packs, invitations, flyers, pamphlets, posters, photographs and films produced in part by MAXXI and in part coming from artists and institutions. The material conserved is archived using EAM (Electronic Archive Management) software and will soon be available for consultation at the museum and on-line.

Services
The archive staff, while awaiting publication of the on-line index of the collections, conduct research on specific subjects, identifying the type and the quantity of the documents conserved and their location, permitting users to choose whether to proceed with consultation on site.

MAXXI Arte’s photographic archive, born out of the need to constitute and organize a collection of photographic documents, has been assembled during the course of events closely linked to MAXXI; it is therefore associated with its activity regarding the conservation and fruition of documentary sources within the ambit of the promotion and production of art in the XXI century.

There are two fundamental nuclei: photos of the works in the MAXXI Arte collection and documentary photos relating to the history of MAXXI itself. All the documents are being archived using EAM software, with a description system that takes into account the principal standards in use and that permits links between the catalogue of the works in the collection and the other archives. The photographic archive will soon be available for consultation at the museum and on-line.
