MAXXI Architettura Archives Centre Hall
Michele Valori was a great experimenter residential building, the promoter of new low-cost housing, one of the authors of the new town plan for Rome in the 1960s and one of the leading figures of Italian architecture of the second half of the 20th Century. MAXXI Architettura, together with the Associazione Michele Valori is devoting the exhibition Abitare le case to this supremely rigorous architect, enlightened planner and lecturer.
Staged at Palazzo Zenobio on the occasion of the last edition of the Venice Architecture Biennial, the exhibition arrives at MAXXI enriched with 35 new drawings from the Torre Spagnola (Matera, 1954) and INA Casa (Civita Castellana, 1950) projects that join over 40 other original drawings, photographs, models, contemporary interviews and testimony to the importance of Valori’s work.
The Michele Valori Archive, declared to be of notable historical interest by Lazio Archive Superintendancy, was accepted into the MAXXI Architettura Collections in 2006. It brings together documents and drawings relating to over 70 projects, from planning to housing, correspondence, teaching and research and photographic and audio-visual materials and architectural models.
