Encounter with Thomas Adès

Thursday 22 March 18.30
MAXXI B.A.S.E meeting room – admittance free

Composer, pianist and conductor, Thomas Adès, born in 1971, is one of the United Kingdom’s leading musical figures. Courted by the major orchestras and the world’s most prestigious theatres, he has invented an original and very modern musical idiom that succeeds in reaching the hearts of even those listeners least well-disposed to contemporary innovation. This is seen in the critical and public success that has always accompanied his operas and his exhilarating symphonic and instrumental pieces.

On the occasion of his performances at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia (24, 26, 27 March), Thomas Adès will be meeting the MAXXI public to talk about himself and his work. Extracts from the video recording of the premiere of the opera The Tempest staged at the Royal Opera House in London in 2004 will be screened.
