Mariniello, Raffaela

Raffaela Mariniello (Naples, 1961) came into early contact with photography by working for a photo-reporting agency, subsequently directing her attention to landscape and architecture, with an idiom that over the years has opened to new expressive modes.
Marked by important episodes (such as her work on the former Italsider plant at Bagnoli or the ARIN artistic project realised with Daniel Buren, to mention just two) her research focuses on the analysis of those contradictions – more cultural than visual – found in the urban landscape. The result is a metaphysical and alienating effect with tones that are at times poetic but more frequently ironic and that succeeds in rendering manifest the incongruous and transfiguring elements of the contemporary landscape.
