A conference exploring the works of the Breton artist as an interpreter of the form and the poetic narration of contemporary arts and architecture
The #LightOn series curated by iGuzzini and MAXXI is back with a new seminar featuring the contemporary light artist Yann Kersalé.
His research examines sociological, historical, geographical and architectural elements to extrapolate a narrative theme constantly linked to the context, revealing objects in an innovative and unexpected way and contributing to a new interpretation of the contemporary city and a new spatial sensibility. Through the use of volumes and constructions, he suggests new stories for the modern city, creating fictions and works of luminous design that reinvent urban spaces.
Over the last 30 years, Yann Kersalé has travelled throughout the world, exploring and intervening with works in natural settings from dusk to dawn, over the course of a single night, in order to underline the temporary nature of light that can be captured in flash. Among the most important and most representative works for which he has designed illumination projects, mention has to be made of MuCEM in Marseilles (2013) and the Théâtre Temps in Lyon (1993), the Tour Agbar in Barcelona (2005) and the Miroir de Mer in Sydney (2013), the Sony Center in Berlino (2000), Villa Medici in Rome (2018), Place de la Republique in Pars (2013) and the light installation at the Quai Branly Museum in Paris (2006), where he worked with the architect Jean Nouvel and the landscaper Gilles Clément.
*A free ticket may be picked up from the MAXXI ticket office or downloaded from vivaticket.it (subject to a commission fee of €1.00) from Friday 23 February 2018.
