Storytelling in museums, a resource for active citizenship and cultural heritage mediation.
The book, edited by Simona Bodo, Silvia Mascheroni and Maria Grazia Panigada, and published by Mimesis, takes stock of the potential of an instrument which is particularly ductile and suitable for cultural heritage mediation (be such heritage historical, artistic, scientific, archaeological or anthropological), namely autobiographical storytelling. Indeed, while contributing to the building of active citizenship and new social connections, such type of mediation gives voice to its real protagonists, namely narrators, who tell stories where essential knowledge is mixed with personal information. Therefore, autobiographical storytelling is able to stir up in the audience the same emotions that the objects displayed in museums do as far as their personal experience and life is concerned.
