Architecture as the confluence of diverse disciplines
The latest seminar in the #LightOn series, curated by iGuzzini and MAXXI, features Umberto Napolitano, the founder in 2002 along with Benoit Jallon of Local Architecture Network, the approach of which is based on a working method that has allowed the practice to explore new territories and to develop a point of view that encompasses social, formal, functional and planning issues.
Their projects take into account this universe of possibilities on all scales and in all contexts, from the sophisticated architectural objects such as the EDF National Archives of experimental residential complexes (Paris, Bègles, Beirut), commercial buildings (the Euravenir tower in Lille), cultural projects (the Théâtre du Maillon and more recently the Grand Palais) or planning projects (the Brossette quarter, Île de Nantes, and the development of the Neue Hamburger Terrassen residential complex).
LAN’s work has received awards both in France and on an international level. These include the Mipim AR Future Projects Awards in 2010, a nomination for the Équerre d’Argent in 2011 and in 2012 the silver medal within the ambit of the Fassa Bortolo International Sustainable Architecture Prize. In 2013, the practice won, among other awards, the BigMat France prize, while in 2014 the Euravenir tower was awarded the Smabtp-Pyramides d’argent and in 2015 it was one of the projects considered for the Mies van der Rohe Award.
