A series of lectures dedicated to Italian artist film and video from the ’60s through to the present day on the occasion of the artapes season
Four seminars with four different academics exploring a number of themes and aspects of the relationship between artists and moving images, from the historical-artistic context to the political and performative point of view, from contaminations between the cinematic and the electronic media and through to the found-footage procedure.
Form the moment in which in the mid-Sixties an economic portable model appeared on the market, the video camera became the new and accessible instrument with which artists could create a work in “real time”. Electronic technology finally offered the freedom and mobility necessary for full control over the creative process, both in terms of the independence from the technical constraints of recording on film stock and for the possibility of having thanks to live transmission, immediate feedback on what is captured by the camera.
In the second lecture Cristiana Perrella, curator and critic, analyses the relationship between video and artistic practices associated with the body, contextualizing the Italian experiences within the broader international scene.
Cristiana Perrella. Curator and critic, between 1998 and 2008 she directed the Contemporary Arts Programme of The British School at Rome. From 2010 she has curated the artistic side of the activities of the Fondazione Golinelli in Bologna. As an independent curator she has worked with Italian and international institutions including MAXXI. She lectures at the IED in Rome.
